What They Say
Vizio said that it will have an M-Series LCD TV later this year that will support 240Hz operation in 1080P resolution, although the sets will feature UltraHD panels. A range of 48-120Hz will be supported in UltraHD resolution and 48-240Hz at 1080P. ALLM will be supported as well as Dolby Vision Auto gaming and HGiG.
What We Think
Yesterday, in catching up with the development of IT displays at CES, I spotted that Asus has a new notebook that has a panel developed by BOE that also supports 120Hz at UltraHD and 240Hz at FullHD. I’ve been wracking my brain to think if I have seen this kind of system on an LCD before (although the idea of trading resolution and refresh was completely normal in the days of CRTs).
Technically, I don’t think it should be particularly tricky to develop a half resolution/double speed solution as you can simply deal with the lines as pairs, but maybe there’s a catch. If any readers have any info on this, I’d be happy to hear about it. (I have reached out to BOE) (BR)
