What They Say
Prad.de has reported that the 27-inch UlttraHD ViewSonic ColorPro VP2786-4K monitor will have a five year warranty and the warranty will cover ‘all kinds of pixel errors’. The blog said that the manufacturer is now apparently extending this warranty to all monitors in the VP series. It doesn’t matter whether it’s light, dark or partial sub-pixel errors: If such an abnormality becomes apparent within five years of purchase, ViewSonic will immediately exchange the affected product at the customer’s request. What We Think
I’m not as close to the detail of the monitor market as I used to be, but in the past ‘bright pixel’ defects were usually the only ones that were warranted. Bright pixels on a dark background tend to stand out more than the other way around and in LCDs it was always relatively easy to block a defective bright pixel. However, this is quite a statement about the quality of the pixels used, after all there are 24 million sub-pixels and to guarantee all of them is impressive.
The reason for pixel defects is not always clear. I remember watching a black fly crawl down the inside of an LCD many years ago to the middle of the screen, where it died. Had I not been watching it, I might well have assumed that the little black speck was a pixel defect! (BR)
