Vewd and AirConsole bring casual gaming to the TV

What They Say

Vewd and AirConsole, a cloud-based video gaming console, announced a deal to integrate the console into the Vewd Android- and Linux-based platforms for pay TV, smart TVs and n-vehicle infotainment systems. The AirConsole technology is reported to have been deployed by Evoca, a NextGen TV service in the U.S.

“The casual gaming market is forecast to reach more than $23 billion in revenue by 2026”

said Amanda Oleson, Vice President of Content Partnerships at Vewd.

The AirConsole platform is said to already have over a million monthly active players.

What We Think

At the SID/DSCC Business Conference, Paul Gray of Omdia highlighted cloud gaming as the ‘next big thing’ for smartTVs, saying “Cloud gaming will dwarf consoles”. All aboard!

I seem to have been reporting about the great potential of cloud gaming for decades. Perhaps it’s time has finally arrived. (BR)
