We saw a quote in an Asian source that reported a forecast that 4K home cinema projector sales will grow from 80,000 in 2017 to 680,000 in 2021. The source of the data wasn’t quoted, so to verify it, we spoke to PMA, the global projection and US LFD specialist. The company told us that it wasn’t its data, although it thought the number for 2017 looked about right. The company kindly supplied us with its forecast, which covers both native UltraHD and using time multiplexing and those with UltraHD/4K support. The last category was significant last year, but will almost disappear as truly UltraHD units become more easily available.
Looking at the overall market size, the company sees reasonable growth, although the rate of growth declines over the period, but the US and Europe are not expected to grow in volume, with Asia supplying all the growth.
