UDC Signs OLED Agreement with Osram

Universal Display Corp. (UDC) and Osram have signed a collaboration and evaluation agreement, which will see Osram begin sampling UDC’s phosphorescent OLED (PHOLED) materials for use in lighting.

The news comes just one month after Osram CEO Olaf Berlien said that OLED is too expensive to become more than a niche lighting technology. At a meeting with analysts in Munich in February, he said that Osram would invest in OLED lighting technology, but not for general use. The company feels that applications such as automotive lighting are more suited to OLED. Osram is supplying the OLEDs for BMW’s M4.
