Connected TV device shipments in the USA reached 12.4 million units in Q3’14, according to Strategy Analytics (up 36% YoY). The rise was mainly driven by demand for new consoles and digital media streamers, such as the Fire TV stick. Connected device ownership was up 28% YoY, to 168 million units. Microsoft led the installed console base, but Sony won sales. Samsung, Vizio, Sony and LG are the top Smart TV vendors, in that order. Apple, which led the digital media streamer market in Q3’13, has fallen to third place behind Google and Roku.
