What They Say
Toms Hardware has reviewed the high end curved (1800-2300mm radius) 38″ Acer Predator X38 monitor. As well as supporting up to 175Hz refresh from an IPS panel, it is claimed to have a 1ms MPRT and produces up to 450cd/m² of output. (Acer Goes Big With Three New Predator Gaming Monitors Offering Expansive Views). Colour coverage is specified at 92% of DCI-P3.
The site liked the format:
The Predator X38 may just be the perfect size and shape for a curved ultrawide monitor.
The monitor was well set up and calibrated and produces up to 4,800:1 contrast in HDR. It had good luminance and white uniformity.
It rates the monitor as ‘among the very best’ but gives only a 4 star rating to go along with the Editor’s Choice award.
What We Think
I once had an LG 38″ curved monitor sent to me by LG’s press agency for review. Sadly, it had been badly packed and was broken on arrival and it was the only review unit in the UK at the time. I must try again – I always thought the format should be very good. I was surprised how much I liked the 34″ 21:9 format compared to my 16:9 32″ monitor, but the 38″ would have that extra bit of resolution.
The Acer looks nice, but it is very expensive. (BR)
