Radius Display International has built what it calls “the most technically sophisticated, robotic LED display in the world” in New York’s Times Square. The project has taken four years to engineer and creates a moving LED image, based on moving LED modules. It covers 2,000 sq. ft. (185 m²).
Each LED cabinet is mounted on a piston that is individually controlled and can be extended at up to 2′ (60 cms) per second to create motion effects, which are visible in the video at the end of this article.
The display system goes live at the end of August and Radius promises to supply more technical details.
