What They Say
Magic Leap said that its V2 headset would go on sale in some countries on 30th September at $3,299, although there are also a “Developer Pro” ($4,099) and an “Enterprise” option ($4,999) version with a two year warranty.
The display devices are 1440 x 1760 resolution with luminance variable from 20 to 2,000 cd/m² and with up to 120Hz refresh. FoV is 70° diagonally and the headset has ‘dynamic dimming’. There is a 12.6 mp camera for 4K capture up to 30fps or 1080P60 as well as a depth camera and an ambient light. There are also 3 cameras used for tracking. The headset is powered by an AMD x86 CPU with an AMD GFX10 GPU. The unit has 3.5 hours continuous use battery life or 7 hours in sleep mode.
What We Think
My favourite commentator on AR, Karl Guttag, is very sceptical about what Magic Leap can do with occlusion (dynamic dimming), so I’m looking forward to when he can get ‘hands on’ with this new headset in its production form. (BR)
