The best laptop meets the world’s best display technology

What They Say

We reported on the Dell XPS13 with an optional OLED a couple of months ago. Laptop Magazine looked at the unit and reported that:

  • The 3.5K display is ‘breathtaking’ with four narrow bezels, but with the camera at the top of the display
  • Luminance is 361 cd/m² and DCI-P3 coverage is 83.1%
  • The touch display is responsive and usable
  • Battery life is 7.5 hours which the site regards as ‘respectable’ (compared to 11 hours for the 1200P version and 7h32m for the UltraHD LCD model)

“Overall, the XPS 13 OLED brings an excellent display upgrade to what was already our favorite laptop, and it does so without too many sacrifices”.

What We Think

The article highlights that there is a big price increase ($400() to switch from the FullHD+ version. That’s quite a lot, but these OLEDs do look fantastic. With the long hours that I use my notebook, I would still be nervous about screen burn-in, but I might be tempted to an OLED next time. A friend in product management in Lenovo could never understand why I always went for a higher resolution display when 1080P had much better battery life, but I can’t help it, I’m a pixelaholic!
