TDK of Japan said that it has agreed to buy InvenSense, a leading supplier of sensors for mobile devices, especially six-axis and nine-axis motion sensors. The deal values InvenSense at $1.3 billion and is at an almost 20% premium on the share prices of 20th December and 52.4% above the 60 day average.
TDK said that the acquisition fits its strategy of improving its sensor business.

Of course, sensors are not displays, but we chose to cover this story as InvenSense seems to be a significant player and there’s no doubt in my my mind that one of the key breakthroughs for mobile devices was the exploitation of sensor technology. The desktop market has yet to really make the most of it. (BR)
