TCL Corporation has released its interim results, reporting turnover in the first six months of the year of $7.3 billion, up 6.6% from the first half of 2014, and net profit of $253 million, a rise of 73.7% year on year. The company said that the significant increase in net profit was mainly attributable to China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), which achieved turnover of $1.3 billion and a net profit of $194 million in the first half of the year.
TCL’s communication business contributed $1.6 billion to turnover, up 8.9% YoY and net profit of $56 million. The business sold 34.8 million mobile phones in the first half of 2015, up 16.3% YoY with smartphone sales climbing 38.8% to 20.8 million units.
The company’s multimedia business, TCL Multimedia Electronics, generated turnover of $1.9 billion and net profit of $17 million. The proportions of sales attributable to smart TVs increased to 65.2% while the proportion for 4K TVs moved up 13.8%. Curved TV sales reached 30,083 units.
