TCL Raised Margins on Displays and Grew Market Share in 2022

The company has seen significant improvements in the shipment of TCL smart screens with larger sizes, quantum dot/MiniLED, and high refresh rates. Of the 23.78 million TVs it shipped in 2022, 19.3% were 65+ inch screens. Growth for this product category was 52.7% YoY in international markets, and 96% in China, which represents a third of the company’s business.

The large-sized display business showed remarkable growth with the shipment of TCL smart TVs increasing by 0.8% YoY. Overall, smart TVs 65+ inches grew byy 75.7% YoY. The PRC market also witnessed growth of 21.3% YoY when you factor in all smart TV sales.

TCL, as a whole, reported a revenue of HK$71.3 billion (equivalent to $9.27 billion USD) for the year 2022, with a gross profit of HK$13.1 billion ($1.7 billion USD), a 4.6% YoY increase, and a gross profit margin of 18.4%, a 1.7% YoY increase while dropping in revenues by 4.74%.
