What They Say
TCL has started to sell Android TVs beyond the original low value HD Android sets that first included the OS. There are 50″, 55″ and 75″ sets at at $349, $399 and $799, sold by Best Buy.
What We Think
TCL’s success was, in significant part in my opinion, based on its adoption of the easy to use Roku operating system. However, that comes at a cost, so it’s not surprising that TCL is trying to see if it can sell successfully without Roku. Hisense also sell Roku-based sets and as Roku is successful in signing up additional brands, the ability for TCL to differentiate is reduced. (BR)
