Taiwanese Smartphone Makers Down in Q3

digitimesresearch

Digitimes Research said that smartphone shipments by Taiwan-based vendors declined 35% from Q3 2015 to 12.36 million, with lower than expected shipments from HTC, Asustek Computer and Acer which meant lower orders for assemblers including Compal, Foxconn, Arima and Wistron. Compal and Arima are reported to have started shipping to Sony, but at lower levels than had been hoped.

The company said that Asustek started to ship the ZenFone 3, but that shipment volumes were limited by a shortage of display products. HTC also started shipping Google Pixel phones, but right at the end of the quarter, so with limited impact on the Q3 data.
