Taiwan’s notebook ODMs, Quanta Computer and Compal, reported strong sales in September. Quanta’s sales rose 4.8% month on month and 11.8% year on year to NT$85.1 billion ($2.8 billion), bringing sales from January to September to NT$880.4 billion ($28.9 billion), down 14.1% sequentially but little changed YoY. The company shipped 4.8 million notebooks in September and 13.7 million in the third quarter, up from 11.5 million in Q2. Quanta is confident of achieving its shipment target of 43.1 million notebooks in 2014 and having already finalised most of its orders for 2015, expects to reach shipments of 50 million units next year.
Compal’s September sales of NT$84.8 billion ($2.8 billion) were 17.2% higher than August and 37% up on September 2013, bringing sales to date to NT$599.3 billion ($19.7 billion), a 20% improvement on the same period of last year.
