SVOD Revenues for MENA will Reach $1.23 Billion by 2022

According to the Digital TV Research MENA region OTT TV and video forecasts report, SVOD (subscription video on demand) revenue for the region will reach $1.23 billion by 2022, representing around 70% of the total OTT revenue, and will nearly be a $1 billion more than the 2016 total, which was 56% of the OTT total revenues for that year. OTT TV episodes and movies are forecast to generate revenues of $1.75 billion by 2022, which is more than quadruple the $428 million recorded in 2016.

The research predicts that there will be 17.27 million SVOD homes by 2022, which is up from 3.74 million recorded at the end of last year, with Turkey having many more SVOD homes than other countries in the region.

Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Icflix, Starz Play, Iflix and Shahid Plus are predicted to account for 39% of the region’s SVOD subscribers by end of 2022, which is up from 34% in 2016. Israel and Turkey, are predicted to account for 78% of SVOD subscribers to the six platforms by 2022, which is down from 88% last year.

Netflix is predicted to be the largest pan-regional SVOD platform by 2022, with an expected 3.26 million paying subscribers, which is more than five times the 2016 total. Longer-established Icflix will exceed 2 million subscribers by 2022, which is four times its 2016 total, and Starz Play will add a further 1.60 million. Iflix will have 695,000 subscribers by 2022, based on six of the eight countries in the region.
