What They Say
The GFU in Germany released data on the TV set market in Germnay. For the calendar year 2020, the market value was up 15.2% over 2019 to €4.4 billion while volumes were up to just under 7.4 million. After several years of falling prices, the average price increased by 4.5% to €598.
The trends towards larger images and better resolution continued in the past year: the sales of TV sets with diagonals over 55″ (140 cm) now account for two thirds (66%) of TV sales value and this segment has a share of 43% in volume.
TV sets with Ultra HD resolution accounted for 90% of total sales value in 2020 (2019: 85%). More than seven out of ten (73%) of all TV sets sold in Germany are Ultra HD-compatible (2019: 65%).
What We Think
No real surprise here, but the GFU pointed out that declining ASPs are not inevitable in the market if consumers are persuaded of the good value of what they are offered. (BR)
