Following complaints from owners of Sony’s A1 OLED TVs regarding a persistent dimming problem, Sony has released a new firmware update to fix it. FlatPanelsHD has released a detailed analysis of the TV’s performance following the update, which Sony says brings its dimming algorithm in line with its AF8 model.
A firmware update released earlier this year adjusted the TV’s dimming algorithm in order to avoid burn-in issues when bright, static images are displayed. However, the auto-dimming feature appeared to have been made too sensitive, darkening the image at seemingly random intervals. Sony acknowledged the issue back in July. All affected sets should receive the fix by the end of September, the company said.
