Sony INZONE M9: Low Input Lag, Some Quality Issues

What They Say

Sony reentered the computer monitor market this year with its Inzone units. (Sony Impresses Reviewers with M9 Monitor). Rtings had a look at the M9 and decided that it liked the gaming experience with support for 4K 120Hz on the PS5 and X Box Series X. However, the IPS panel has ‘mediocre’ contrast of 1,046:1 native and going only to 1,198:1 in dynamic mode with local dimming (and 96 zones). The site said that ‘blacks look grey’ in darker rooms.

The set does have impressive peak brightness and is certified to DisplayHDR 600 but with measured luminance up to 865 cd/m². Grey and black uniformity are good and SDR colour is described as ‘fantastic’ white it covers DCI-P3 and has great colour volume.

What We Think

Clearly, Sony has used its knowledge of monitors and processing to make a good monitor, but the low level of dynamic contrast was something of a surprise for me. (BR)
