What They Say
Sony has a new 50.1 megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera that can record video up to 8K 30p 10 bit 4:2:0 video. It can also capture UltraHD 120p/60p 10 bit 4:2:2. It supports an S-Cinetone OETF with an S-Log3 gamma curve. It can output 16 bit raw output via HDMI. It can support Super 35mm mode. It will be available in March at around $6,500.
What We Think
I try not to overdo the coverage of cameras – it’s an interest of mine! I’m also a fan of the Sony full frame concept. I bought an Alpha 7S to use for getting good quality videos for Display Daily. The accounts department (my wife) was not very pleased with the cost. However, that weekend, she saw the results of some shots I took of our family and I was forgiven 🙂
It is interesting to see Sony supporting 8K video and that may see the format being more widely used for content creation, downsampled to UltraHD. At this price, the camera is aimed at professionals, and has gained a lot of positive comment for its speed and range of features. The Xperia phone we reported on last week would go well with this camera as an enhanced viewfinder. (Sony Introduces The Xperia PRO 5G Smartphone (BR)
