Sony Impresses Reviewers with M9 Monitor

What They Say

As expected, Sony has re-entered the monitor market with two gaming monitors (M9 & M3) which will be sold under the Inzone sub-brand later this year (M9 first, then the M3). The M9 is a 27″ unit with an UltraHD IPS panel and 96 dimming zones, supporting 144Hz via G-Sync compatibility and HDMI VRR. It will support XBox Series X or PlayStation 5 at 120Hz. There is an auto tonemapping feature when connected to the PS5 and it is certified to DisplayHDR600 (although Tom’s measured over 850 cd/m²). Colour coverage is 95% of P3,

It can recognise video content and will switch to cinema mode. It costs $899 (and The Verge pointed out that, despite the price, it is not supplied with any cable! Tom’s Hardware pointed out that it has no sRGB mode for PC use).

The M3 is a 1080P unit with 240Hz refresh on its IPS panel without FALD and with 99% of sRGB and costing $529. It is certified to DisplayHDR400.

Both monitors have 1,000:1 native contrast and claimed response time of 1ms (GtG).

What We Think

PC Gamer had a look at the M9 and liked it. So did Tom’s which classified it as a ‘superb gaming monitor’ (BR)
