Sony Mobile Communications has predicted that shipments of its smartphones will reach 16.5 million units in fiscal 2017, according to a report by Digitimes.
This figure represents a marked increase on the 14.6 million units shipped in fiscal 2016.
The report goes on to say that Sony shipped 3.4 million units during the first quarter of the fiscal year, and while sales were down 2.5% on the previous year, operating income saw a remarkable increase from ¥400 million ($3.6 million) to ¥3.6 billion ($32.7 million) due to a reduction in business costs including R&D and operations.
The company’s annual revenue projection has remained unchanged at ¥820 billion ($7.4 billion).
