Sony Enjoys Rising Laser Uptake

Sony does not traditionally use BETT to show off new products, but has more of a focus on solutions. At the show, the company was showing off its Vision Presenter tool, which can be used for a variety of applications. A distance learning concept was being showcased.

The University of Bath has rolled out an installation of Sony products, and the fact was being celebrated at BETT. It is a continuation of last year’s work, when the University took six VPL-FH500L projectors and 51 VPL-FH31 units. Now, the University is expanding its rolling refurbishment programme across the whole campus.

Maintenance simplicity was key in the work, and so Sony’s 3LCD laser projectors were chosen. Sony designed and implemented a solution featuring six VPL-FHZ55 and four VPL-FHZ700L models. Reflex Limited installed the products.

Rob Meakin, senior product manager at Sony, said that the company now has the top position in the 4,000-lumens laser market. UltraHD is also a growing area, with about 33% of Sony’s projectors using the format.

The new VPL-FHZ57 was also being showcased (Sony Redesigns Laser Chassis).
