Ahead of its planned QLED TV launch on March 7th in New York, Samsung US has released details of two of its ranges of TVs for 2018. Unusually, the company didn’t release details of its TV set range at CES, this year, although it has done this in the past. The sets are ‘wide colour gamut’, but are not what Samsung calls QLEDs.
There are new NU8000 and 7X00 ranges that are in the mid-range to upper part of the range and they replace the MU8000 and MU7000 models. All of the models released are based on LCDs that are edge-lit (we expect the direct-lit ones to be announced next week) and are available in flat or curved configurations (but only flat in all sizes). The sets all support HDR and Samsung is including HDR10+. (We have seen third party reports that the sets support HLG, but could not confirm this at press time)
Features include voice control based on Bixby and the latest Smart technology from Samsung based on the Tizen OS. There is also support for SmartThings, the IoT control system that the company promoted so strongly in its CES press conference. The sets also have a low latency gaming mode, although we don’t yet have details. Samsung claims that the TV can sense when a console is connected over HDMI and switch automatically to the game mode. The new, simpler, OneRemote will be bundled with the 8000 and above models.
The ‘Clean Cable Solution’ brings the cables out through the stand for a neat installation.
