SoC Specialist ALi Posts Ninth Consecutive Quarterly Loss

STB chipset provider ALi reported a loss in the first quarter of 2018, the company’s ninth consecutive quarterly loss, according to Digitimes. The company’s net losses in the first quarter reportedly came to $96.3 million ($3.22 million), while consolidated revenues dropped to NT$552 million ($18.5 million), falling by 18% quarter-on-quarter and 27% year-on-year.

According to the publication, ALi CEO Daniel Huang has stated that the company is focused on selling its STB technology to pay TV operators in emerging countries — such hardware accounted for 50-55% of the company’s total revenue during the first quarter of 2018.

Digitimes also reports that the company has named its new CFO, Sophia Liang. Previously, Liang was deputy spokesperson of ALi’s majority shareholder MediaTek and CFO of its subsidiary Nephos.
