According to an article in Nikkei Technology, Masa Corp has shown a smartglass device developed specifically for golfers. The article shows a look around design that provides the golfer with specific information related to his game, such as distance to the pin, data on the green, etc.
According to the report, the device is a see through design that allows the golfer full vision of the surroundings. (This seems to contradict the above image, though the image may just show a dummy product with no optics at all.)
The report also mentions that the device may use a Sony OLED display with a resolution of nHD (640 x 360). The device weighs just 20g including battery. It does not include a GPS but can connect to a smartphone or other GPS device via Bluetooth. The company is planning to release the smartglass in 2015 for a price of ¥30,000 ($252). While it says that the technical design is completed, the device has not yet been tested in real life on a golf course.
Masa also expects that the smartglass will be used for jogging and other sports and the company is considering incorporating the device into swimming goggles in the future. – NH
