Sky to Stop Satellite Dish Installations? Italy & SA Get Sky Glass

What They Say

The daily newsletter from Advanced-television.com reported that Sky in the UK has told its suppliers that it will end new satellite dish installations by the end of 2023.

However, when we clicked on the link, the article seemed to have been deleted.

Last week Advanced-television.com said that MultiChoice Group (MCG) in South Africa would be the second global partner for Sky Glass after Foxtel of Australia signed up last year.

Separately, DigitalTV Europe reported that the Sky Glass TV, built around streaming, is now on sale in Italy, from €697 for a 43-inch model, €995 for a 55-inch version and €1,293 for a 65-inch model. The launch in Germany has been delayed until 2023

What We Think

It looks as though Mr Sky might have objected to this news story, or, of course, it might just be wrong, although in that case I would have expected the site to have noted this in a revised article at the same url. As was pointed out in the email, Sky has been very heavily promoting its broadband services and the streaming Glass TV which does not have a satellite tuner.

If the original story is correct it would be a big change for Sky – the satellite dish becoming a status symbol or an eyesore in the UK, depending on your views. (BR)
