South Korean chemical manufacturer, SKC Kolon, has revealed that it will build a facility for the production of transparent polyimide film for foldable display applications. The new line will be incorporated in to one of the company’s existing facilities in Jincheon, South Korea, with mass production scheduled to commence in October 2019.
Back in December 2017, the company forged a deal with affiliate company SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing, investing 85 billion won ($76 million) in the PI manufacturing business.
Analyst Comment
The development of this kind of folding protective film is a critical enabler of folding devices and Kolon was one of a number of companies, including DNP and Ares, that were showing and talking about this kind of technology at Display Week. (BR)
