Sigma Designs® (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for Smart TV, Internet of Things for Smart home, media connectivity and set-top-boxes (STBs) will be showcasing the turnkey integration of the open-source Frog by Wyplay set-top-box middleware with Sigma’s HEVC 4K-capable SMP875x family of system-on-chip ARM® processors.
As part of this effort, Sigma Designs is contributing the source code for the porting of Wyplay’s middleware on the SMP8758 4K UltraHD chipset and will distribute associated development boards to its customers and partners with the Frog Reference Implementation pre-loaded in binary. In parallel, Wyplay will use Sigma’s reference design as its next reference hardware and will make the source code available to all Frog licensees via the Frog Community Portal. The Frog Community gathers today a growing ecosystem of more than 75 Licensee companies sharing the same code base. Such companies include chipset vendors, TV operators, devices OEMs, independent software vendors and system integrators.
Mustafa Ozgen, Vice President and General Manager Home Multimedia for Sigma Designs said: “Not only does the SMP875X family offer optimal performance to price ratio for multiple STB platforms, but its pre-integration with the Frog middleware means that operators can introduce new convergent services with maximum velocity.”
“This turnkey integration provides the ideal stepping-stone for creating new cost-effective HEVC IPTV / OTT client devices,” said Wyplay CEO Jacques Bourgninaud. He added: “We thank Sigma Designs for their proactive contribution that benefits all members of the Frog Community.”
The solution is demonstrated at CTSB, Moscow, Jan 27, 2015 – Jan 29, 2015 at Crocus Expo Stand 591 Hall 4.
