Sharp Could “Help” JDI

Dai Cheng-wu, President of Sharp, has said that his company is ready to assist JDI as it struggles to deal with the switch to OLED in its key smartphone market. (Japan Display At the Crossroads). Sharp is said to be worried about the leakage of knowledge to China if JDI turns to Chinese companies to help it, and sees an alliance with itself as a better option to avoid this.

Staff at MITI in Japan, which sets the direction for industrial policy, must be very concerned at the possibility of another technology “jewel” moving to Taiwanese ownership if it came under the control of Foxconn/Sharp. (BR)
