Aquos, Sharp’s TV brand, has unveiled its latest lineup of 4K organic LED (OLED) televisions in Japan, featuring a QD-OLED FS1 line and an OLED FQ1 line. The Aquos QD-OLED FS1 Line is the company’s first QD-OLED screen and uses a proprietary heat dissipation structure and panel control circuitry to manage heat, thus brightness and color performance, according to Sharp.
Interestingly enough, the TVs have something called a Medalist S4 image processor which includes an AI Auto mode. Sharp claims the image processing engine has been trained on an extensive dataset of over 1 million images. It demonstrates high accuracy in detecting human faces and the sky within images. Upon detecting these elements, the system automatically adjusts various image attributes such as colors, brightness, and detail according to the detection results and the specific program genre being displayed, such as movies, dramas, or sports content.
The AI Auto mode not only focuses on enhancing image quality but also extends its capabilities to optimize sound quality. By analyzing the content being displayed, the system can automatically adjust audio settings to improve the clarity of people’s voices in news and dramas, and enhance the overall sense of presence, particularly for sports content.
The processor also has an environment sensing feature that uses sensors or other means to detect the brightness of the viewing environment, because the human eye can perceive brightness and color differently under varying lighting conditions. As a result, Sharp claims the system can automatically adjust image quality settings to optimize the display performance in different viewing environments. In a brightly lit room, the system enhances visibility by increasing the gradation level of dark areas, which tend to be challenging to see under such lighting conditions. It also expands the dynamic range of brightness, allowing for a more vivid and realistic representation of the visual content. On the other hand, in a dark room, the system employs smooth adjustments to the gradation of dark areas, resulting in a natural and textured image that is comfortable for the viewer’s eyes.
The TVs also have a pretty impressive sound system, according to the specs, and are fully realized with reception capabilities for a wide range of digital broadcasting content, including terrestrial digital channels, BS digital channels, 110-degree CS digital channels, as well as 4K content from both BS and 110-degree CS satellite systems.
