Paul the Robot has become a popular fixture at German retailer Saturn’s Ingolstadt store since it arrived 12 months ago, so much so that the digital assistant is also coming to the company’s Berlin and Hamburg stores.
According to an official press release, Paul the Robot’s duties include welcoming customers, answering questions, and escorting customers to the products they’d like to learn more about. Using his built-in microphone and loudspeaker, Paul can communicate with customers as well as giving them product information and telling them about the special offers and services available in-store. Whenever a customer requires more detailed advice, Paul summons a human employee to deal with them.
This year, Paul was also named the winner in the Best Customer Experience category at the EHI Institute’s Retail Technology Awards Europe (RETA).
