The ET News said in a Korean language article that Samsung Electronics would show a new 77″ QD-OLED TV at CES 2023 next month. The article suggests that a relatively visible and powerful launch suggests that Samsung Electronics is keen to further promote its QD-OLED products. It also said that the yield on QD-OLED panels is now over 85%.
The set should ship in North America and Europe ‘in the first half of next year’.
What We Think
No real surprise here. The 77″ panel had already been announced (Samsung Display unveils first 77″ QD-OLED panel). A 49″ set is also expected. I would expect to see the new sizes from Sony, at least, as well.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung Electronics swings its full marketing weight behind QD-OLED, although I doubt it as supply will be quite limited and if the firm is too successful, it will have challenges in meeting demand.
