ETNews of Korea said that Samsung will start mass production of flexible displays from this month, as the company has approved samples from Samsung. The site also said that although a flexible display is being used, it will be used in a flat configuration, without the bends of the Samsung Edge concept.
Analyst Comment
Several years ago, I spent most of a flight to CES sitting next to a mobile phone product manager. He explained to me the incredible level of qualification needed by the major carriers before selling a new smartphone. That means that production quality units have to be available months before the release of the products. Given the huge volumes that big carriers can ship in a short period of time, such stringent qualification are understandable. That does mean that it is extremely hard to keep details secret. (BR)
