There have been unconfirmed reports that both Samsung and Sony are considering plans to establish manufacturing bases in India. Samsung is thought to be considering a facility to produce smartphones and tablets, while Sony is interested in setting up both flat panel TV and smartphone production.
The Indian government has been encouraging domestic companies to start manufacturing electronics goods within the country instead of importing them.The country’s National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) had also proposed creating a $1 billion fund to encourage telecom equipment manufacturing in India.
