At its recent development conference, Samsung suggested that it was actively developing a product somewhere between the Gear VR smartphone-based model and the Windows Mixed Reality set that it has announced (Samsung HMD Odyssey Has Better OLED Displays. The new version would have inside-out positioning and 6DoF motion controls, like the higher end set, rather than the 3DoF in the Gear VR. The company said that it is working with Intel on that technology
