Samsung has designed a VR solution for pain management, in response to the opioid crisis and over-prescription of pain medication. The technology is currently under a clinical trial at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
The trial uses Samsung smartphones and Gear VR hardware to provide a range of experiences to patients suffering from acute pain. Successful studies of VR’s efficacy in the treatment of pain, as well as anxiety, have already taken place at healthcare facilities in the US.
