What They Say
Well, it’s not exactly news to those that watch the market, but the Korea Herald reported data from Omdia that gave Samsung top position in the TV market for the sixteenth consecutive year, with 29.5% of market value and 19.8% by volume. Omdia said that since the launch in 2017, more than 26 million QLED TVs were sold by the firm, with 9.43 million in 2021.
Also, Samsung sold 42.1% of high-end TVs priced $2,500 or more last year. Of supersize TVs with screens 80 inches or bigger, the company accounted for 44.9% in the market.
Meanwhile, crosstown rival LG Electronics enjoyed its record market share of 18.5% buoyed by the robust sales of its flagship model OLED TVs. LG sold more than 4 million OLED TVs last year, giving the firm a 62% share of that segment.
What We Think
Not surprising, but still, these are useful data points, although the forecasts have suggested that the market is now past its peak and may decline this year as Samsung develops the QD-OLED and, possibly, the OLED business. (BR)
