Samsung Introduces Tizen-Powered LFDs

Samsung has formally announced the global P-Series standalone Smart signage which run the Tizen operating system. There is a PHF sub-range (700 cd/m²) and a PMF range (500 cd/m² except 32″ which is 400 cd/m²). Typical contrast is from 3,000:1 to 5,000:1 according to the model and there is dynamic contrast control from the Edge LEDs.

The displays will also support the upgraded fourth generation Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP 4.0) which is claimed to have a reinforced graphics engine that is said to run animations three times faster than previous versions and avoid blank screens and interruptions. There is an integrated quad core SoC running at 1.3GHz and based on a Cortex-A12 architecture and 8GB of memory (4.25GB available). Codecs up to HEVC and VP9 are supported.

Both sub ranges PHF (43-, 49- and 55-inch) and PMF (32-, 43-, 49- and 55-inch) can support 24/7 operation (except 32″ which is 16/7). They also have an integrated (but hidden from view) infrared receiver to allow the use of an infrared remote control. The cabinet depth is 29.9mm and bezels are slim at 6.9mm on the sides, 8.9mm at the bottom. The cases are IP5x certified for dustproofing. Inputs include dual HDMI, DVI-I and DisplayPort (with DP Out), and Wi-Fi is integrated. There are dual 10W speakers and the panels are non-glare.
