Samsung Display has applied to the US Department of Commerce to allow the supply of OLEDs to Huawei. The report states that LG Display is not pursuing this line.
What We Think
As I understand it, the key reason for Samsung to need this permission is that the OLED drivers use US technology. Huawei has been switching, where it can, to other suppliers and Chinese sources reported that all displays for the Huawei Mate 40 will come from BOE, but the Mate 40 Pro uses suppliers including LG and Samsung. GSMArena said that TSMC is planning to supply 8.8 million Kirin 9000 chipsets for the Mate 40, against an order for 15 million. (BR)
