Samsung bought Harman, which specialises in technology for connected cars. It is paying $8 billion in cash for the business.

Steve covered this story in a Display Daily Road to Connected Car Runs Through Samsung. I commented after meeting Harman at CES (briefly) and for longer at MWC this year (Harman Wants to Keep Cars Up to Date) that it seemed to me that Harman had a good position. After acquiring an Israeli start-up, the company had developed a sophisticated system for controlling, securing and tracking software updates for cars. Given the huge potential for liability claims in the automotive business, this is a big issue. Having Harman will give Samsung an entry point into pretty well all the auto makers, which it will, no doubt, exploit in many different ways. (BR)
