Samsung Adds Mounts for Rugged Tablet

Samsung has introduced a rugged tablet for industrial environments, the Galaxy Tab Active2.

Suk-Jea Hahn, Executive VP of Samsung Electronics’ Global Mobile B2B Team said:

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 was built based on in-depth customer and partner feedback and has been carefully developed to create a whole new category of tablet for the global workforce. We strategically worked to build a wider partner ecosystem for extended functionality through collaborations with leading industry players, such as IBM, Ecom Instruments, Gamber-Johnson, RamMounts, iKey, Otterbox and Koamtac. With IBM Maximo, we are delighted to bring to Samsung, for the first time, industry leading asset management features for field workers to simplify their daily lives.”

This has enabled application and data integration and also ensures that there are professional mounts for vehicles and other environments.

The hardware is certified to Mil-Std-810 and has a 1.2m drop anti-shock cover and is water and dust resistant to IP68. The display is an 8″ 1280 x 800 LCD ant eh processor is a Samsung Exynos 7870 with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable by 256GB of microSD). There are 8 MP and 5 MP cameras and the battery is an 4,450mAh unit. The tablet has the Samsung S pen, which is also waterproof.

Separately, Gamber-Johnson said that it has three new docking stations for vehicles such as police cars, ambulances, OTR trucks, utility trucks, and forklifts.

The docking station comes in three versions: a lightweight and low-cost cradle, a fully loaded docking station with a USB port to power the keyboard or mouse, and a kit version that replaces the tablet’s battery. All three versions have passed Gamber-Johnson’s extensive rugged environment standard, meaning they have been tested on shake and vibration tables, crash tested, and cycle tested 30,000 times, intended to make sure they will hold up for many years. All come with a one-year limited warranty.
