Russia’s State Duma has approved a law on audiovisual Internet services that could have a bearing on Netflix’s expansion in the country. If audience share is over 100,000 users per month in Russia, foreign companies will only be allowed to hold a maximum stake of 20% of a company, or apply for permission to exceed the limit.
Once Netflix exceeds 100,000 users, it will have to negotiate with the Russian authorities or find a local partner. It was reported by the Vedomosti business daily, that Netflix is already looking for potential Russian partners.
