Rumor: Microsoft Adds VR cardboard viewer

According to news on a Russian website, Microsoft will give away a virtual reality viewer named Microsoft VR Kit at a Moscow hackathon in October of this year. The VR Kit is similar to the Google Cardboard and acts as a virtual viewer by allowing the user to strap their Smartphones in front of their eyes and experience virtual reality apps first hand.

While Microsoft has in the meantime taken down the website with the announcement, several other websites including USA Today and Engadget have picked up the story and published images of the more colorful device.

So far Microsoft has not confirmed the release or even the existence of such a device. This has driven some websites to speculate about the device release during a New York hardware announcement conference on October 6. We will soon see if this is a correct guess or not. (NH)
