Rumor: Huawei to Release Honor Smartglasses in Late 2014

With augmented reality glasses from Google still in an extended beta release for $1,500 a piece, the release of other augmented reality headsets, like the Vuzix M100 or Epson Moverio, is still a very interesting topic. According to rumors from various tech blogs, Huawei might be the next manufacturer to jump into the augmented reality market with its Honor smartglasses.

The headset is based on a monocular design similar to the Google Glass device and sits under the arm of the glasses as can be seen in the image below.

There is very little known about this headset at this time. Huawei has not officially announced anything about the Honor smartglasses, however there is an event planned this month, at which Huawei may announce the device.

GSM Dome reports that the smartglasses will have a 5 MPixel camera, a 640 x 480 pixel resolution and run on Android 4.4 KitKat. There are also some sensors to allow for gesture control included. There is, of course, no information yet on availability or price. – Norbert Hildebrand
