Roland Garros UHD Availability is Mixed

What They Say

The Roland-Garros tennis tournament in Paris has been a popular event for testing new TV technologies (e.g. HDTV via MPEG4 in 2006, 3D broadcast in 2010, UltraHD in 2013 etc) and although it will be captured in UltraHD with HDR, it’s availability over different mediums is different. It is available in some areas by DTT in UltraHD (HDR10 and also HLG on different channels) and on Fransat – the FTA satellite channel.

Those with a Bouyges Télécom STB can get UHD resolution, but with SDR. Amazon is streaming the event, but only in FullHD.

What We Think

I was intrigued that different DTT channels use different HDR technology. Do consumers actually understand which they should watch for the best result? Do French consumers understand HLG & HDR10? I doubt it. (BR)
