Report: Essential Has Cancelled New Smartphone and Is up for Sale

Essential Products, the smartphone startup headed up by Android founder Andy Rubin, has cancelled development of its next smartphone and is reportedly going up for sale. Rubin downplayed the reports in a tweet but didn’t confirm or deny that the company was looking for a buyer.

The company’s flagship smartphone launched back in August 2017, priced at $699, but lacklustre sales prompted a $200 price drop shortly afterwards. IDC reported that the device only sold 88,000 units last year. ($200 Price Drop for Essential Smartphone)
