$200 Price Drop for Essential Smartphone

Essential has dropped the price of its first smartphone by $200, bringing it down to $499 off-contract. The price drop has been implemented by the company to improve consumer word-of-mouth and perceived value, and further compete with the big players like Apple and Samsung.

The company has also created an offer for early adopters of the Essential Phone in the US, allowing them to claim a $200 credit that they can use to purchase additional products, such as a device for friends or family, or the handset’s 360 Camera attachment. An offer for Canadian customers is also reportedly in the works.

The Essential Phone launched in August 2017. It features a 5.71″ 2560 x 1312 QHD LCD display and a 13MP dual RGB and monochrome camera with a f/1.85 aperture lens, that can capture video in Ultra HD at 30FPS, 1080p at 60FP or 720p at 120FPS. The smartphone’s camera performance was widely criticised on release, but issues have since been fixed via software updates.
