Samsung Gear S4 Could Run Wear OS Instead of Tizen

Samsung Gear S4, the company’s next smartwatch, could abandon its proprietary Tizen operating system and make a return to Google’s Wear OS platform (previously known as Android Wear) according to the rumour mill, including social media tipster Evan Blass.

The only Samsung smartwatch to have run Google’s operating system in the past is the Gear Live, which was released in 2014. Other than that brief sidestep, the company has stuck fast with its own OS. However, Wear OS devices have historically received a far higher degree of support from developers.

Samsung’s Gear Live was its first — and last — smartwatch to run Wear OS.
